“It’s important to know exactly what you need from your stove or fire. Does it need to heat your entire home, just one small room, your conservatory? Where can the flue run and how does that fit in with building regulations.” Said James “A stove or fire and the fireplace or fire surround are a fabulous addition to any home. Be it a modern or more traditional look you’d like, we can help you find the right one. We’ll survey your property, advise you on what needs to be done and once agreed, our technicians will install and have your fire or stove up and running and looking fabulous before you know it.”

A fireplace quickly becomes a centre point in your home. There’s nothing better than sitting around a roaring fire or gently glowing stove. Today’s options are clean and easily tended and can put our more heat than you’d imagine.

James Gray. MD Ampthill FireplacesAbout James Gray

My Dad, Chris Gray, started the fireplace business 30 years ago. He was originally in the motor trade but noticed a demand for supply and installation of both original and reproduction fireplaces. His skills and tools were transferable so this new venture quickly overtook his panel beating business. As a result I was born into this trade.

As a child I spent school holidays “helping” him install the fireplaces he sold from the small shop he had at the time. That small shop, one man operation has grown and expanded into a business housed in a three story showroom in Ampthill, Bedfordshire from where multiple teams of installers cover the surrounding counties installing wood burning stoves, multi-fuel stoves, electric fires, gas fires and a whole host of fireplaces, we’ve even got outside stoves for when you’re entertaining.

I took over the business as Managing Director in 2016 and, being of a different generation to my Father, I was keen to digitise and automate many functions of the company. I had a good grounding and good teacher which helped me to win Bedfordshire Young Business Person Of The Year in 2016, and in 2017 I came second nationally.

High Flyers is both a valuable and enjoyable way for me to talk through business issues with other businesses in the region.
